Krueger alumnus Johnzo West enjoying national success as musician

LOS ANGELES – Johnzo West’s time at Krueger Middle School changed his life forever.

West, a nationally famous musician, went through Krueger Middle School in seventh grade. He was in an environmental group, and starred in a musical which helped spark his interest in performing.

“I will never forget being in that musical,” West said. “I’ve always wanted to sing and act since then.”

Spirited superior to A Christmas Carol in telling the tale of Scrooge

This is the third installment of Movie Night with Batoul & Seidet, a monthly series in which Batoul Achy and Seidet Segura will collaborate on and taking turns writing classic movie reviews from a modern perspective.

The 1951 film A Christmas Carol and 2022 film Spirited are both films that share a handful of similarities, yet differences. A Christmas Carol is a take on the book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Spirited is a modern retake with a plot twist of the 1951 film. Overall, Spirited is better since it feels more alive and the message is clearer than in A Christmas Carol.

Michigan City hosted a parade and tree lighting to set off the Festival of Lights on Saturday evening in the downtown area on Franklin Street.

MCAS teacher/coach Colin Yarnelle impacts youth through dedication

MICHIGAN CITY – Many people sit and watch the world go by, while Colin Yarnelle stands up to make a change. 

Yarnelle, 32, is the defensive backs coach for the Michigan City High School football team, and is a computer science teacher at Krueger Middle School. 

He’s motivated by God, love and curiosity to make a difference in the lives of others. 

“I do what I do because I love life,” Yarnelle said. “Waking up everyday is not an, ‘Oh no, here we go another day again.’ Everyday I wake up I’m like, ‘Oh, I wonder what’s gonna happen today.’”
