King Richard was amazing. The movie showed what real-life tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams had to go through to accomplish their goals. The film shows how they achieved their dreams and how their father, Richard Williams, was always a part of their journey. It also gives a visual on how hard life was for the Williams sisters and what they went through. It took multiple tries for Richard to find the girls a coach. King Richard did a good job of showing how hard the Williams sisters had to work with their limited opportunities.
This movie had so much meaning. It shows the Williams sisters avoiding mistakes and striving for what they worked so hard to achieve. I felt empathy at some parts of the movie when people in the tennis community wouldn’t give the Williams sisters a shot to show what they could bring to the table. I also felt happy because the sisters got to grow and thrive with each other. The movie inspired me so much to believe that giving in is not the answer, but working hard is.
There were scenes or parts that could have showcased more of Serena than Venus. The movie showed what happened to Venus and what she accomplished, instead of showcasing how good Venus and Serena were together. King Richard should have shown more of what Serena could do instead of the film being a one-sided story. However, the movie did well in telling Serena’s story in the little time they did focus on her.
King Richard succeeded in taking the viewer through the Williams sisters’ experiences. Even though the film could have shown more of Serena’s story, I loved the way it showed the journey of the sisters’ accomplishments. In the end, King Richard is a great movie.
