The reigning NFL MVP might have a new home next season.
With the Green Bay Packers losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, fans are starting to worry about what Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers plans to do next season. If the Packers lose Rodgers, the 2021-22 MVP, they will be missing a very valuable part of their offense. This will translate to the team’s downfall.
The Packers should keep Rodgers, because he is an outstanding player and they have no replacement who is on his level.
Even at 38 years old, Rodgers still is playing spectacularly. In the 2021-22 season, he threw for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns and just four interceptions for a 111.9 QB rating.
He also is too much of a team leader for the Packers to lose. He’s proven this by leading Green Bay to the playoffs 11 times and winning a Super Bowl in the 2010-11 season.
After all the success Rodgers has had, could you really blame another team if it tried to pick him up?
What’s more, the Packers have no solid replacement for Rodgers if he leaves.
Yes, they have Jordan Love, but as we’ve seen him perform we know he isn’t prepared yet to take on the starting role.
The Packers were in the right mindset at the time in drafting him, only because Rodgers is aging.
However, Love didn’t play that much this past season, and when he did his performance was underwhelming. He threw for two touchdowns, three picks and had only a 68.7 QB rating in six games.
If Jordan Love takes on the starting role, Green Bay would experience a major downgrade next season.
To keep Rodgers, the Packers need to re-sign star wide receiver Davante Adams. Even though they’re over the salary cap, there are still ways to move around money to keep both of them.
He’s the best wide receiver in the league sitting right there on your roster. You can’t let go of him just like that.
Keeping Adams would motivate Rodgers to stay, because it would give him a better chance to win another Super Bowl ring.
Rodgers is still more than capable of making that happen. If they value the future of the franchise, the Packers need to give him a contract extension immediately.
